Creating Safer Communities in Europe: a crime prevention sourcebook

RESPONSES TO CRIME BY INDIVIDUAL COUNTRIES

This section draws (with permission) on the findings of a survey carried out by the Association of London Government and the Survey on Crime in Europe carried out by G Katona (Budapest 1994).

The countries with the most developed crime prevention policies and practices, as identified in the previous section, are described in much more detail. However, this weighting is partly based on information received by the author - there may be countries with highly sophisticated crime prevention programmes who are quietly getting on with it rather than publicising what they are doing. Therefore the descriptions below cannot claim to give a definitive coverage of crime prevention in Europe. In particular, they may only indicate the quantity or publicity of crime prevention rather than the quality.

Although efforts have been made to verify the information for countries listed, the author cannot guarantee that everything is correct and current. The author would therefore appreciate receiving corrections, amendments or suggested additions from readers in other countries, so that the Web pages can be updated and a possible second edition of the Sourcebook can be published.
