Lydiard House in its park taken from hot air balloon

Lydiard Park is Swindon's foremost historic park. As well as being designated a Country Park, it includes the striking Palladian house with many of its original contents, and the setting to one of the country's most beautiful parish churches.

The park and house are both extremely popular but the gradual decline and loss of historic parkland features, coupled with the need to improve the facilities used by some quarter of a million visitors every year, has prompted Swindon Borough Council to launch a major restoration programme.

The Lydiard Park Project is supported by Heritage Lottery Fund, local business and national agencies. It was selected by The Countryside Agency as a flagship project to explore best practice and a renaissance for Britain's County Parks. English Heritage also consider it to be a national exemplar and are partners in the scheme.
